CHICAGO - Angie Sorensen has been tabbed assistant strength and conditioning coach at Loyola University Chicago it was announced today. A former student-athlete at the University of Nebraska-Kearney, Sorensen has spent the last five years as an assistant strength and conditioning coach for WCS Sports Performance, a private sports performance practice.
"We are thrilled to add someone with Angie's background and experience to our staff," Loyola Assistant Athletics Director for Sports Performance Dave Vitel said. "She is an accomplished coach and will be able to bring out the best in our student-athletes."
A graduate of Nebraska-Kearney, Sorensen competed for the track and field team and in addition to being a part of back-to-back Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference Outdoor Track and Field championships, also was an all-conference athlete. At UNK, she completed a year-long internship with the Antelopes' Strength and Conditioning Department, where she worked with football, baseball, men's basketball, women's volleyball, tennis and women's golf.
After graduating from UNK, Sorensen moved to Chicago to begin work as a personal trainer and since then has worked in a private sports performance practice and has served as a physical therapy aide where she has gained experience in rehabilitative practices.
Sorensen is also an accomplished Olympic weightlifter and has earned several fifth-place finishes in her weight class at the national level. A Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist with the National Strength and Conditioning Association, she is also a Certified Personal Trainer and Corrective Exercise Specialist with the National Academy of Sports Medicine and a USA Weightlifting Sports Performance Coach.
