CHICAGO (November 20, 2017) – Marques Townes (Edison, N.J./St. Joseph/Fairleigh Dickinson), a junior guard on the Loyola University Chicago men's basketball team has been named Missouri Valley Conference Newcomer of the Week it was announced today by the league office.
 
Townes, a transfer from Fairleigh Dickinson, continues to impress in his first season of eligibility with the Ramblers. The 6-foot-4 guard has scored in double figures in all four games this season, and last week, accounted for 15.0 points, 8.5 rebounds, 3.0 assists and 1.5 steals per game, while shooting 57.1 percent (12-for-21) from the field, 33.3 percent (2-for-6) from beyond the arc, and 100 percent (4-for-4) from the foul line as Loyola improved to 4-0, its best start since 2010-11.
 
The Edison, New Jersey, native nearly recorded a double-double in each contest last week. After posting 12 points, nine rebounds and three assists in a 66-56 victory at UMKC on November 16, Townes racked up 18 points, eight boards, three assists and a steal in an 88-67 victory over Samford yesterday, Loyola's 12^th straight home win over a non-conference foe.
 
For the year, Townes is contributing 15.0 ppg, 7.3 rpg, 3.8 apg and 0.8 spg, while connecting on 63.9 percent (23-for-36) of his field goal attempts, 36.4 percent (4-for-11) of his three-pointers, and 66.7 percent (10-for-15) of his charity tosses. In three home games this season, Townes is averaging 16.0 ppg, 6.7 rpg and 4.0 apg, while shooting a remarkable 73.1 percent (19-for-26) from the field.
 
Townes and his Loyola mates put their unblemished record on the line tomorrow night when they host Mississippi Valley State at 7 p.m.
