CHICAGO (December 11, 2017) – Cameron Krutwig (Algonquin, Ill./Jacobs), a freshman center on the Loyola University Chicago men's basketball team, has been named Missouri Valley Conference Newcomer of the Week it was announced today. The 6-foot-9 Krutwig is the second Rambler to earn the award this season.

In two wins last week, the big man averaged 13.0 points, 8.0 rebounds 3.0 assists and 1.5 steals per game, while connecting on 71.4 percent (10-for-14) of his field goal attempts and 85.7 percent (6-for-7) of his charity tosses, to help the Ramblers improve to 10-1, their best start through 11 games since 1965-66.

Krutwig came up huge in a 65-59 win at No. 5 Florida, Loyola's first win over a top-five team since 1984, by recording 14 points, his most since producing a career-high 17 points in the season opener versus Wright State, eight rebounds, three assists, a block, and three steals. He followed that up with 12 points, eight boards, three assists and a rejection, hitting 4-for-4 from the field and 4-for-5 from the charity stripe, in an 80-52 pasting of Norfolk State on December 9.

Krutwig, who has scored in double figures three times this season, is contributing 8.3 ppg, 6.4 rpg, 2.5 apg and 0.7 bpg, while shooting 58.5 percent (31-for-53) from the field and 78.4 percent (29-for-37) from the free throw line, this season.

Loyola is back in action Saturday (Dec. 16) afternoon when it visits former conference mate Milwaukee at 1 p.m.
