CHICAGO (December 13, 2017) – Loyola University Chicago redshirt junior
Clayton Custer will be sidelined for three-to-five weeks due to an ankle injury he sustained in last week's 65-59 win at No. 5 Florida.
The 6-foot-1 point guard has been a key reason behind Loyola's 10-1 start, its best since opening the 1965-66 season with 10 wins in its first 11 contests. Custer had started 42 straight games before missing the Norfolk State game on December 9 and is averaging 12.5 points, 2.2 rebounds, 4.2 assists and 1.3 steals per game, shooting 51.8 percent (44-for-85) from the field and 38.2 percent (13-for-34) from three-point range this season.
Fellow starting guard
Ben Richardson has also been sidelined for the last eight games after suffering a broken hand in the Ramblers' game at UMKC on November 16. Richardson was contributing 7.0 ppg, 2.3 rpg and 4.0 apg this season before going down with the injury.
Loyola, which is ranked No. 3 in this week's CollegeInsider.com Mid-Major Top 25 Poll, returns to the court on Saturday (Dec. 16), when it visits former conference mate Milwaukee at 1 p.m.
