Red-Hot Ramblers Sweep MVC Men’s Basketball Weekly Awards

Ingram named player of the week, while Krutwig collects newcomer of the week honors

CHICAGO (January 22, 2018) – Loyola University Chicago's Donte Ingram (Chicago, Ill./Simeon) and Cameron Krutwig (Algonquin, Ill./Jacobs) have been named Missouri Valley Conference Men's Basketball Player and Newcomer of the Week, respectively, it was announced Monday afternoon. The Ramblers are the hottest team in The Valley and bring a five-game winning streak into this week's action.

Ingram, who two weeks ago scored his 1,000th career point, averaged 18.0 points, 7.0 rebounds, 1.5 assists and 1.5 steals per game, while draining 57.1 percent (12-for-21) of his field goal tries, including 54.5 percent (6-for-11) of his attempts from long distance, in a pair of wins last week.

The 6-foot-6 swingman was nearly unstoppable in a 79-65 victory over Southern Illinois on January 17, erupting for a season-high 25 points, while pitching in seven rebounds, an assist, a block, and three steals. He knocked down 7-of-12 shots from the field against the Salukis and continued his torrid long-range shooting at Gentile Arena by burying 5-of-8 tries from beyond the arc. He then wrapped up the week by contributing 11 points and seven rebounds, to go with a pair of assists, in a 70-54 victory at Valparaiso. This marks the second time this season that Ingram has been named MVC Player of the Week.

For the season, Ingram, who is one of only 19 players in Loyola history to accumulate over 1,000 points and 500 rebounds in his career, is tallying 11.9 ppg, 6.6 rpg and 1.5 apg, shooting 46.4 percent (83-for-179) from the field and 40.6 percent (41-for-101) from triple territory.

Krutwig, who is earning the MVC Newcomer of the Week accolade for the second time this season, had another solid week, averaging 14.0 ppg and 8.0 rpg, hitting 63.2 percent (12-for-19) of his field goal attempts. The 6-foot-9 freshman, who has scored in double digits in three straight games, pitched in 18 points and nine rebounds, hitting 7-of-10 shots from the floor, while adding an assist and a steal, in the victory over Southern Illinois. He then accounted for 10 points and seven boards in a win at Valparaiso on January 21, and over his last three games is recording 16.3 ppg and 9.7 rpg, while shooting 64.7 percent (22-for-34) from the field.

For the year, the Algonquin, Illinois native is averaging 9.6 ppg, 6.4 rpg, 1.9 apg and 1.0 bpg, and is draining 56.7 percent (72-for-127) of his field goal attempts and 75.8 percent (47-for-62) of his foul shots.

The Ramblers, who are 16-4 overall and 6-2 in MVC play, are tied for first with Drake and visit the Bulldogs Wednesday night (Jan. 24) with sole possession of the top spot in the league standings on the line.
