CHICAGO (February 22, 2018) – Clayton Custer (Overland Park, Kan./Blue Valley Northwest/Iowa State), a guard on the Loyola University Chicago men's basketball team, has been named to the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) Academic All-District V Team it was announced today. The redshirt junior is the first Rambler to earn CoSIDA Academic All-District recognition since Ben Averkamp in 2013.
 
A Missouri Valley Conference Player of the Year candidate, Custer has had a remarkable year on the court, leading the Ramblers to their first-ever Missouri Valley Conference regular-season title and first league crown of any kind since 1986-87. In a record-setting season, Loyola has established a new program standard with 14 conference wins and its 24 victories tie for the most since 1984-85.
 
Custer has been a vital cog in the Ramblers' terrific season, helping the club to a 22-2 record in games he plays, while averaging 14.7 points, 2.3 rebounds, 4.1 assists and 1.7 steals per game. He has been one of the top shooting guards in the country, knocking down an impressive 56.4 percent (128-for-227) of his field goal attempts, including 49 percent (47-for-96) of his three-point tries.
 
Off the court, Custer has been recognized for his academic achievements, earning Missouri Valley Conference Scholar-Athlete of the Week honors three times this season and a year ago, he was named MVC First Team Scholar-Athlete. He carries a 3.52 grade-point average as a finance major.
 
Loyola closes out the 2017-18 regular season on Saturday (Feb. 24) when it hosts Illinois State at 1 p.m. in a game that will be televised live on ESPN2.
