Loyola Men’s Basketball Signs Tykei Greene

6-foot-4 guard starred at Long Island Lutheran High School in 2017-18

CHICAGO (May 9, 2018) – Tykei Greene, a 6-foot-4 shooting guard, has signed a National Letter of Intent to play basketball at Loyola University Chicago beginning with the 2018-19 season, Ramblers head coach Porter Moser announced today. Greene averaged 15.0 points and 5.0 rebounds per game this season at Long Island Lutheran High School in Brookville, New York.

"When you get to know Tykei and watch him play, toughness and character are what he is all about," Moser said. "He is a big, athletic wing, who comes from a great program in New York, is a competitive defender, and has the ability to play multiple positions. Tykei will be a high-level athlete in our four-out offense and his competitiveness and toughness fit right in with our culture."

Greene, a native of Queens, New York, helped Long Island Lutheran to a 22-3 record in 2017-18 and the championship at the SNY Invitational. Along the way, the Crusaders defeated the state champions from North Carolina and Ohio this season. Part of a deep and talented roster, Greene connected on 50 percent of his field goal attempts and 44 percent of his three-point tries in his first season at Long Island Lutheran after transferring from Thomas Edison High School.

While at Thomas Edison, Greene contributed 24.1 points, 7.1 rebounds and 2.9 assists per game as a junior in 2016-17.

Loyola finished the 2017-18 season ranked No. 7 in the USA TodayCoaches Poll in an historic season. The Ramblers notched a program-record 32 wins and reached the Final Four for the first time since winning the NCAA championship in 1962-63.

Moser will welcome back three starters from this season's squad, including Associated Press Honorable Mention All-America guard Clayton Custer and his backcourt mate Marques Townes, a native of Edison, N.J., and center Cameron Krutwig, who was the Missouri Valley Conference Freshman of the Year in 2017-18.
