CHICAGO - The Loyola University Chicago track and field team began 2007 in impressive fashion with some top finishes on Friday night at the Notre Dame Opener in Notre Dame, Ind.
On the men's side, Rambler sprinters led the way with impressive performances in the 60-meter dash. Freshman Nick Herold took first place in his second career event with a time of 7.05 and was followed by Edmund Blankson at 7.13 and Jimel Denham at 7.17.
Blankson and Denham performed even better in the 300-meter dash. Blankson won the event title with a 35.07 time while Denham followed in second place with a time of 35.60.
Erik Hernandez continued to excel for the Ramblers in the field events by taking second place in the shot put with a 53-00 effort.
For the Rambler women, Marcia Faustin turned in the lone top-three finish in the high jump. Faustin's mark of 5-06 gave her third place in the event. Notre Dame's Cassie Gullickson took first place with a 1.76-meter mark.
Loyola returns to the Loftus Sports Center next Friday for the Notre Dame Invitational.
