CHICAGO - The Loyola University Chicago men's and women's track & field squads will resume their season this Saturday when they travel to Iowa City, Iowa to compete at the Iowa Open.

A competitive field including the host school and Big Ten power Iowa along with in-state rivals Bradley and Western Illinois will be awaiting the Ramblers when they roll into Iowa City. Field events are scheduled to begin at 1 p.m., while the running events are slated to commence at 2:15 p.m. inside the UI Recreation Building.

"Both the athletes and coaches are very excited to get started again," commented Loyola head coach Randy Hasenbank. "We're all really chomping at the bit to get to Iowa City and show what we can do against some great competition."

The Ramblers will be looking to follow up on a strong showing at the Laker Early Bird Invite last November, in which five school records fell. In recognition of their performance at the season-opening meet, the Horizon League awarded three members of the Loyola squad with weekly honors for the week of November 26. Senior Declan Murray, who set a new school record in the 600m and was part of a the 4x400m squad that also set a new school record, along with freshman Rebecca Stearns, who shattered the previous school record in the 600m by almost six seconds, were awarded Horizon League Runners of the Week honors, sweeping the weekly awards. Senior jumper Candice Carajohn was also recognized as the women's Field Athlete of the Week after she earned a first-place finish in the triple jump at the Laker Early Bird Invite.

After competing in Iowa City, the Rambler men and women will return to action next weekend when they participate at the Gladstein Invitational in Bloomington, Ind., January 18-19.
