CHICAGO - The Loyola University Chicago track & field teams kick off the postseason portion of their outdoor schedule this weekend by traveling to Wichita, Kan. for the 2017 Missouri Valley Conference Outdoor Track & Field Championships.

The three-day event, scheduled to be held at Cessna Stadium, will kick off on Friday at 10 a.m. with the men's decathlon. Saturday's full slate is set to get underway with the women's heptathlon at 10:30 a.m., while the women's triple jump will begin the final day of competition on Sunday at 11:30 a.m.

In the pre-championship poll of the league's head coaches, Loyola was tabbed to finish eighth in both the men's and women's team races. Championship host Wichita State topped both polls as it collected 16 out of a possible 17 first-place votes.

On the men's side, Loyola enters the weekend with nine members of its roster ranked in the top 10 of the MVC leaderboard across various events. Leading the way for that pack on the track is the duo of redshirt senior Jake Mazanke and sophomore Kevin White. Mazanke currently sports the conference's top 800m time of 1:48.98, with White, the league's reigning indoor 800m champion, close behind in second following a scintillating run of 1:49.25 last Friday night at the Wisconsin Alumni Classic. In the field, freshman Eric Burns rolls into the league meet with the Valley's a top leap of 25-02.00 (7.67m) that tops the long jump chart.

The Rambler women sport five individuals in the top 10 on the league leaderboard. The junior trio of Cassie Bloch, Lindsey Brewis and Emma Hatch will all look to put points on the board for the Maroon & Gold on the track. Bloch, who took third in the mile run at the 2017 MVC Indoor Track & Field Championships, sits fifth on the 1,500m run leaderboard at 4:30.41. Brewis (3rd; 16:43.85) and Hatch (6th; 17:13.32) both sit near the front of the pack in the 5,000m run, while Hatch also holds the conference's third best 10,000m time of 35:17.25. Junior Kiera Washpun has her sights set on a long jump title as she comes into the weekend ranked second overall in the event with a top mark of 19-10.75 (6.06m).
