Loyola Head Coach Jim Whitesell
"I really think our guys had some good stretches. This is a really tough team. Remember, they won 20 games and got a lot of experience back in terms of their starters. For the first game of the year, they really ran their offense incredibly well. It was a good team win. We have another tough game tomorrow night against Indiana State."
On playing three games in three days
"This is a tournament but our guys are ready to go. We have a really tough opponent tomorrow night. We have our work cut out for us. We can't worry about Sunday at all. We have to prepare for tomorrow night."
Loyola sophomore forward Ben Averkamp
On using size to their advantage
"Looking at their starting lineup, one of us was going to be guarded by a smaller guy, and we knew we could attack that."
Loyola junior forward Walt Gibler
On the team's strong second-half start
"We came out strong in the second half, which is good because they are a great team with 20-plus wins last season. I think it showed a lot of discipline for our team to come out strong."
On whether the team looks forward to three games in three days to open the season
"This is why Ben and I were here during the summer at 6:45 workouts everyday. This is what we worked for all summer. You love these types of games. You love playing three games in three days."
