Men's Basketball Blog #11: Joe Crisman
Jan. 14, 2013
Christmas break has finally come to an end and today is the first day of classes for the second semester. I can't think of a better way to spend a break between classes than to connect with our fans with another blog!
It was a pleasant surprise to walk around campus this morning and see the familiar faces of our fellow classmates. Winter break was a great opportunity for the guys to spend some quality time together focusing on basketball and spending time with one another each and every day, but the other students are what make our campus the great place it is, so we are glad to have them back!
The past few games may not have gone in our favor with some tough losses against Youngstown State, Green Bay, and Wright State, but this team is resilient. We spent the last few days of breaking down game film and trying to get back to the identity that defined this team earlier this season. We want to be a team that is top three defensively in the league, that can get multiple stops in a row down the stretch in a game, and that gets every loose ball. Coach Moser knows that this is a formula for this team's success and that defense will be the reason why we get back into the win column, and the reason we accomplish our goals.
We lost our last two conference games at home by a total of three points and a few crucial stops down the stretch or anywhere earlier in the game could have resulted in two wins instead of losses. Because of that, we have extra motivation to get back to the winning side.
This Wednesday we will travel across town for a big rivalry conference game against UIC, which is having a great year. UIC is one of the best defensive teams in the Horizon League, and has some upperclassmen that are capable of leading them to a win. We are breaking down film and working on our defensive intensity all week with the goal being to go over to the UIC Pavilion and walk out with a win. Every game in the conference season is a big game, but this one has a little more to it for us to get back on the right track against a rival.
Hope you all can make it out to the UIC Pavilion this Wednesday night! We hope to see, and hear, you there!
