Men's Basketball Blog #13: Joe Crisman
Feb. 7, 2013
Last Saturday, we played a very good first half and were battling hard against some of the league's best players and even a potential NBA prospect in center Alec Brown when we played Green Bay. We had the lead in the second half, but a late run by Green Bay gave them the edge in the final minutes. Unfortunately, this has been a reoccurring theme this year as we have lost some games that could have gone in our favor and a similar script was written this past Monday as we traveled over to Dayton to play a very good Wright State team that started conference play 4-0 and atop the league standings.
We went ahead and seemed like we were going to pull away from Wright State, but again a late run by the other team led to yet another disappointing defeat. The team knows that something has to change because our current record is not a depiction of the true effort and character of this team. We have been working tirelessly on defensive intensity and pressure in closing out games in the second half. We need to have all five guys on the same page and in constant communication with one another with each person doing his individual job to reach the common goal of getting stops down the stretch. Each possession is critical because in a league this competitive, no team can afford to take a play off or else the other team will take advantage.
I'm writing this blog from the plane as we head to Youngstown State for Thursday night's game. The mood of the guys is just as good as it's been all year and hasn't wavered whether we have been winning or losing. Sure, after every loss we feel a sense of disappointment, but as soon as we step onto the court for the next time our mentality is that we need to get better and work harder. We had good practices yesterday and today as we worked on Youngstown's transition offense and worked against their tough 3-2 zone. Our team has a sense of confidence about them, and it's very similar to the one we had as we traveled to Cleveland State and came out of there with a quality win. We have that same confidence and we're looking forward to the challenge that lies ahead in Youngstown.
Hope you all can check out the game online tonight!
