Loyola’s Sr. Jean To Be Recognized As Spirit Of The Valley Award Winner At Arch Madness
Feb. 23, 2017

CHICAGO - Loyola University Chicago men’s basketball team chaplain Sr. Jean Dolores Schmidt, BVM is the 2017 recipient of the Missouri Valley Conference’s John Sanders “Spirit of The Valley” Award and will be recognized prior to the Ramblers’ first game at the MVC Men’s Basketball Championship on Friday, March 3, in St. Louis.

Since 2005, the Missouri Valley Conference has presented the Spirit of The Valley Award to honor a student-athlete, coach or university administrator who exemplifies the spirit of the late John Sanders, former MVC assistant commissioner for operations. Criteria includes, but is not limited to, passion for the Conference, strong work ethic and sense of humor.

Sr. Jean, who last month was inducted into the Loyola Athletics Hall of Fame, has been a fixture at Rambler men’s basketball games and other athletics contests and serves as an important figure in the lives of Loyola students, faculty and staff. She was honored on campus at the Ramblers’ game versus Wichita State on February 12 for being the Spirit of the Valley Award winner.
