Sept. 13, 2012
CHICAGO - Rambler fans can join Loyola University Chicago head men's basketball coach Porter Moser at Hackney's (1514 East Lake Ave.) in Glenview Monday, October 1 at 7 p.m. At "Pigskin with Porter," fans will have a chance to watch some football, mingle with Moser, Rambler coaches and administrative staff, and talk Loyola basketball. Tickets are only $35 per person and include dinner and drinks for the evening.
Heading into his second season at Loyola, Moser welcomes in a talented and highly regarded crop of newcomers for the 2012-13 campaign. During the team's four-game trip to Italy in August, three of those newcomers - forward Matt O'Leary and guards Devon Turk and Jeff White - averaged double-figure points, while transfer Cully Payne doled out 37 assists.
However, Moser won't have to rely solely on youthful exuberance this season as the Ramblers also bring back three starters from last season's club, including Second Team All-Horizon League forward Ben Averkamp. A year ago, the 6-foot-8 senior blossomed into one of the top players in the conference, averaging 15.4 points and 7.1 rebounds per game. Fifth-year senior Jordan Hicks, who averaged 10.8 ppg over the final 13 contests of the year, also will provide leadership for a young Loyola team.
