Men's Basketball Blog Entry #4: Jordan Hicks

It was a cold and gloomy Sunday morning as we waited to depart from the airport to begin our long journey from state to state. In the next four days we will have gone through three states by the time we make it back to Loyola. This is only the beginning to our road trip as we play in Manhattan, Kan. Monday night and then make a pit stop in St. Louis on our way to Charleston, Ill., to face Eastern Illinois Wednesday night. After finally returning back to campus Wednesday night we only get two days of home until we take off for Greenville, S.C., for our game on Sunday against Furman. I have to say we really are living up to our "Rambler" name, which was given to Loyola back in 1926 when (believe it or not) Loyola actually had a football team! Here's a simple and interesting write-up about the school's nickname if you want to learn a little more here
Personally, it didn't help to start off my trip while sitting next to this man on the flight that obviously hated flying. I would consider myself a good flyer, I don't get nervous or anything like that, but sitting next to this man changed all that. Throughout the whole flight I don't think the man slept one bit because every bit of turbulence the man would shake his head frantically and begin to pray. He even flinched so much when some of the luggage above bounced around he grabbed my arm, waking me up from a nice mid-flight snooze! After about an hour and twenty minutes of flight time I couldn't have been happier to get off of that plane. So cross your fingers that my next flight will be a little more relaxing!
Well, it's only been over 48 hours since our season opener and we are ready for our next challenge with a young, but tough, Kansas State team. Although every last person on this team was in no way satisfied by the outcome Friday night, (in a game closer than the score portrayed) that fire inside of us has only grown and will fuel us in our game against the Wildcats. For everybody that remembers our game against K-State last year, it came down to the last minutes of the game, but we ultimately came up just short, losing 68-60 to the No. 5 team in the country. With both teams comprising of somewhat different rosters since the year before this will make for an interesting contest. Catch the game on ESPN3 or Fox Sports Net Kansas City! Until next time!
