At 5:30 a.m. Monday I woke up to my mom getting the rest of my things that I hadn't packed ready to go. Yes, I'm 21 years old and my mom still likes to pack my stuff but that's beside the point. After a quick three days of meal after meal and some great mother - son time I had to make my way back to Loyola. I hadn't been home since the summer and one of the things that I look forward to living in Minnesota during the wintertime is the snow! Well, Santa didn't bring me any snow back home but he did bring myself and the rest of the Ramblers a big victory against Canisius on Thursday, sending us home on a high note.
In a game that went back and forth until we made a late push in the last five minutes of the game to give us a 14-point victory, it simply came down to who wasn't going to break on defense. We talked all week about the team that compartmentalized and wasn't already on winter break would be the team that was going to win. Offensively, I don't know if some of us could hit the broadside of a barn, but on defense we really put the clamps on and grinded out a hard-earned win.
Thursday will be a big test for us. Wright State is a tough team to guard but it's been our defense that has been on the trending upward. So hopefully you'll make the wise decision in checking out the game! Personally, this game has some bragging rights in it. Wright State has a player from the great state of Minnesota named Armond Battle. I know Armond from high school basketball so we've already been sharing some friendly and fun comments back and forth on Twitter.
I hope everyone had a wonderful Christmas! I know I did, and I'm thankful I was able to make it home and spend some time with my family. Happy New Year I hope you can make it to a couple of huge conference games this week as we also host Detroit on Saturday afternoon!
