Lake Worth, Fla. - For the second consecutive day, Alex Cusumano and PJ Riner posted the top scores for the Loyola University Chicago men's golf team at the FAU Spring Break Championship. The Ramblers currently sit just two spots behind local rival DePaul on the team leaderboard. Loyola head coach Adam Kwiatkoski will be hoping to see his team finish the tournament on a high note tomorrow.
"Today we weren't as sharp as yesterday," said Kwiatkoski. "It was windier but everyone played in the same conditions so we won't use that as an excuse. I was impressed with Alex Cusumano and PJ Riner, one of our freshmen. We'll look to make some improvement in tomorrow's final round and draw some more positives from this trip."
Cusumano, a junior out of St. Louis, Mo., sits in 8th-place on the individual leaderboard after firing a one-over par 72 this afternoon. His finest stretch of play came on the front nine with birdies on holes one and four. Riner's day was a constant battle but the Johns Creek, Ga. native used birdies on one and three to help secure a four-over par 75 on the day.
Senior Brian Van De Motter shaved three strokes off of his opening round score, carding a six-over par 77 in round two. Rounding out the Rambler lineup were junior Nick Willenborg (80) and sophomore Nick Dennis (84).
Final round play at the FAU Spring Break Championship will kick off at 8 a.m. tomorrow morning at the Fountains Country Club in Lake Worth, Fla.
