March 31, 2013
Lake Worth, Fla. - Senior Brian Van De Motter posted a five-over par 76 as the Loyola University Chicago men's golf team wrapped up play at the FAU Spring Break Championship this afternoon. The Ramblers finished in 12th place, while the University of Central Florida captured the team championship. Loyola head coach Adam Kwiatkoski gave his own breakdown of today's action and the entire weekend.
"We struggled a bit today with difficult hole locations and wind," said Kwiatkoski. "I'm pleased with Brian's improvement over the week. Alex finally looked 100% healthy and really played well. PJ had a great overall tournament despite a few big numbers today. The guys are really looking forward to defending our title at Bradley next weekend."
Van De Motter improved his scores over each day of play. The Rocky River, Ohio product tied junior Alex Cusumano for the best round of the day for Loyola. Cusumano was the Ramblers top finisher on the individual leaderboard, closing the tournament in a tie for 17th.
Junior Nick Willenborg shaved a stroke off of his round two score, carding an eight-over 79 today. Willenborg, out of Knoxville, Tenn., registered a pair of birdies on the back nine. Freshman PJ Riner (80) and sophomore Nick Dennis (81) rounded out the Loyola lineup in the final round.
The Ramblers will now turn their attention to defending their title at the Hotels at Grand Prairie Collegiate Classic in Peoria, Ill., April 6-7.
