Loyola Men's Golf Finishes 14th At NCAA Regional|

NORMAN, Okla. - Sophomore Alex Cusumano shot a six-over-par 78 today to lead the Loyola University Chicago men's golf team in the final round of play at the NCAA Regional at Jimmie Austin OU Golf Club. The Ramblers finished with a team score of 944, which placed them 14th. No. 13 Washington finished first with an 860, four strokes ahead of No. 1 Texas (864) in a competitive 14-team field that featured eight of the top 47 teams in the nation.
Washington, Texas, No. 24 Florida State, No. 32 Illinois and No. 30 Oklahoma, the top five finishers at the NCAA Norman Regional, advance to the NCAA Championship in Pacific Palisades, Calif., May 29 - June 3.
Cusumano, who has had a breakthrough season, finished tied for 45th with a 54-hole mark of 228 (76-74-78) to lead the Ramblers, who were making their first-ever NCAA Regional appearance.
Fellow sophomore Nick Willenborg, who evolved into one of the top players in the Horizon League this spring, tied for 58th with a 232 (78-73-81), while senior Erik Hoops capped a solid career by placing 70th with a 239 (74-83-82). Freshman Nick Dennis closed out an impressive rookie campaign with a 74th-place showing and score of 247 (79-84-84), and sophomore Sean Hickey, who recorded three birdies en route to an 82 today, finished 75th overall with a 250 (82-86-82).
Chris Williams of Washington (73-68-68=209), who started the day tied for fifth, rallied by posting a four-under 68 to top Thomas Pieters of Illinois (68-69-73=210) by a stroke for medalist honors.
Loyola looks to be a contender for the Horizon League Championship against next season as it loses just one player (Hoops) from the 2011-12 roster.
