Loyola Men's Golf Places Sixth At Purdue/Midwest Shootout
Freshman PJ Riner posts a 36-hole score of 155 (79-76) to lead Loyola

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. - Freshman PJ Riner posted a 36-hole score of 155 (79-76) as the Loyola University Chicago men's golf team finished sixth at the nine-team Purdue/Midwest Shootout today at the Birck Boilermaker Golf Complex. Valparaiso (598) edged the host Boilermakers (600) to take the team crown.
For the second straight meet, Riner was impressive and his two-round total of 155 placed him tied for 21st overall among all golfers in the tournament. Nick Willenborg was right on Riner's heels, carding a 156 (79-77) to tie for 26th, while Alex Cusumano tallied a 162 (85-77) to tie for 39th place.
Charlie Schaffer, who was making his first appearance of the season, posted a 163 (86-77), which included a five-over 77 in round two, and Brian Van De Motter notched a 175 (87-88) to round out the Loyola lineup. Sophomore Anthony Maroon, in his first appearance as a Rambler, turned in a 172 (84-88), while competing as an individual, and took 52nd place.
Brandon Cauldwell of Southern Illinois claimed medalist honors with a six-under 138 (69-69) to finish seven strokes ahead of runner-up Austin Gaugert of Valparaiso (73-72).
Loyola is back in action next weekend (Sept. 22-23), when it competes in the D.A. Weibring Intercollegiate hosted by Illinois State University.
