Willenborg, Loyola Complete Day 1 of Weibring Intercollegiate

NORMAL, Ill. - The Loyola University Chicago men's golf team battled strong winds and unseasonably cool temperatures as they competed in Day 1 of the 2012 Weibring Intercollegiate in Normal, Ill. on Saturday. Junior Nick Willenborg led the Ramblers, posting back-to-back rounds of 75 for a combined two round score of 150. That places him in a tie for thirteenth place on the overall leaderboard. Charlie Schaffer also set a new season low as he fired a 75 in round two as part of his 161 total, which finds him in a tie on the leaderboard with teammates Alex Cusumano (78-83) and PJ Riner (80-81). Freshman Adam Decker rounded out the Rambler lineup with a two round score of 169 (84-85). The University of Illinois currently leads the field after the opening day of competition with a team score of 578 (292-286). Central Arkansas (596) and Illinois State (600), the tournament host, sit in second and third, respectively. Play will conclude with the final round of the 54-hole tournament at 8:45 am on Sunday morning with a shotgun start. Day One Standings |
