Loyola Men's Golf Wraps Up Fall Season At Windon Memorial Classic

SKOKIE, Ill. - Competing against some of the finest teams in the region and nation, the Loyola University Chicago men's golf team finished 16th at the Windon Memorial Classic hosted by Northwestern University at Evanston Golf Club. Play of the suspended second round was completed this morning before the originally scheduled final 18 holes of play commenced. Loyola tallied a team score of 890 to finish in 16th place, three shots ahead of Florida Atlantic (893) and just one back of Penn State (889). Eighth-ranked Arkansas claimed the team title despite shooting a 17-over-par 297 in today's final round, by recording a 54-hole mark of 847, to edge UCLA (851) and Indiana (851). Loyola sophomore Alex Cusumano led all Ramblers with a tournament total of 217 (73-71-73), which featured a one-over-par 71 in round two, book-ended by a pair of 73s. Cusumano, who has been Loyola's top finisher in two of its five meets this fall, wound up tied for 33rd overall, while Sean Hickey finished second among Rambler competitors, tied for 57th with a 223 (75-74-74). Erik Hoops, who shot a one-under-par 69 in Sunday's opening round, totaled a 224 (69-76-79) to tie for 63rd, Nick Dennis recorded a 226 (72-78-76) to tie for 70th and Charlie Schaffer tallied a 234 (76-78-80) to tie for 83rd to complete the Loyola lineup. Matt Thompson of Michigan finished atop the leaderboard with a 54-hole ledger of 205 (69-71-65) to finish two shots ahead of Northwestern's Eric Chun, who registered a 207 (65-72-70) in windy conditions all weekend. Loyola's fall season is complete and the Ramblers will take to the course again in the spring when they compete at The Match Play, February 13-14 in Orlando, Fla. Final Team Results |
