CHICAGO - Following a five-month layoff, the Loyola University Chicago men's golf team will begin their spring season this weekend at the FAU Spring Break Championship.
The three-day, sixteen-team event with kick off with round one action at 8:30 a.m. local time on Friday at the Fountains Country Club in Lake Worth, Fla. There will be simultaneous tee-offs on holes 1 and 10. Play will rap up with Sunday's final round, scheduled to begin at 8 a.m., on the par-71 North course, which features a layout of 6,876 yards.
"We're looking forward to getting our spring season started," said Loyola head coach Adam Kwiatkoski. "This is a well respected event with plenty of great competition. It's a nice step forward for our program to be invited to play in this event and, even though the weather hasn't been great for us lately, we're excited to get down to some warmer weather and start competing."
A stacked field will be awaiting the Ramblers when they arrive in Florida this weekend. The host school Florida Atlantic, reigning Ohio Valley Conference champion Jacksonville St., Atlantic Sun conference powers Stetson and Florida Gulf Coast and local rivals DePaul and Northern Illinois are just a few of the teams that Loyola will be vying with during the three-day event.
Loyola will be looking to follow up on the most successful season in program history, highlighted by capturing their first Horizon League Championship last April and competing in the NCAA Regionals this past May. The Ramblers return a strong nucleus of six letterwinners from that squad, led by senior Brian Van De Motter, juniors Alex Cusumano and Nick Willenborg and sophomore Nick Dennis.
Following their trip to Florida, Loyola will return to action at the Hotels at Grand Prairie Collegiate Classic in Peoria, Ill., April 6-7.
