CHICAGO - After opening up their spring season at the FAU Spring Break Championship, the Loyola University Chicago men's golf team will return to the Midwest this weekend when they compete at the Hotels at Grand Prairie Collegiate Classic.
The action on both Saturday and Sunday will begin with a shotgun start at 8:30 a.m. at the Weaver Ridge Golf Club in Peoria, Ill. Saturday will feature the opening two rounds of play. Play will conclude with Sunday's final round. Weaver Ridge is a par-72 course with a layout of 7,030 yards. The field for the two-day event includes host school Bradley, local rival Chicago State and Horizon League foes Valparaiso and Wisconsin-Green Bay.
Loyola will be hoping to defend its title in Peoria this weekend. Last year, current junior Alex Cusumano, along with Wisconsin-Green Bay's Dan Ozga, posted the lowest individual round in the tournament (69). The junior from St. Louis also played a vital role in helping Loyola post the lowest round (287) of the entire tournament.
Cusumano was the top finisher on the individual leaderboard for the Ramblers at the FAU Spring Break Championship in Lake Worth, Fla., tying for 17th-place. Freshman PJ Riner also turned in an impressive performance over his three-day stay in Florida, securing a top-40 finish against a very competitive field that featured nationally renowned competition. Senior Brian Van De Motter rallied from a tough opening round, successfully lowering his score in each of the final two rounds of play.
Following the Hotels at Grand Prairie Collegiate Classic, the Loyola University Chicago men's golf team will return to the Chicagoland area at the Kemper Sports Intercollegiate in Glenview, Ill., April 15-16.
