Former Loyola soccer forward Gino Sciortino begins his third season as an assistant coach for the Ramblers. He began working with the program in 2007, helping run the Loyola summer soccer camps and college prep camps. In 2009, Sciortino helped Loyola to a 4-8-4 overall record. In his first season as an assistant, Sciortino aided in Loyola's 12-6-4 overall record and the team's second NCAA tournament berth in three seasons. The Ramblers also finished with a No. 47 ranking in the final Ratings Percentage Index (RPI). Following the 2008 campaign, senior Keum Sung Kim was invited to participate in the adidas Major League Soccer Player Combine, joining 64 other collegiate seniors at the camp. Sciortino played for two years at Loyola, earning All-Midwestern Collegiate Conference and team most valuable player honors in his second season after recording seven goals and four assists in 16 matches for the Ramblers. Sciortino began his collegiate career at SIU Edwardsville, playing one season (19 matches), before transferring to Loyola, where he started 12 matches, recording three goals and seven assists. With one year of eligibility remaining, Sciortino left school early to pursue a professional soccer career in Europe. He trained and played in Sicily, Italy from 1992-93 for the semi-pro team AC Bagheria, before returning to the U.S. to coach the club team, Malibu United in Malibu, Calif., from 2000-2003. He also spent time working camps and conducted individual training and private coaching and guidance sessions in Pacific Palisades, Calif. |
