Men's Soccer Draws Even Against Wisconsin, 1-1 in Final Exhibition Match

Aug. 27, 2010

Fort Wayne, IN- In the third and final exhibition match of the 2010 season, the Loyola men's soccer team tied the Wisconsin Badgers, 1-1 on Friday evening at the Hefner Soccer Complex in Fort Wayne, Indiana.

The Ramblers arrived in Fort Wayne looking for their last opportunity to prepare for the regular season. It wouldn't be an easy task, as Wisconsin had similar aspirations heading into Big Ten conference play next week.

Loyola took the game's early lead, thanks to a redirected goal from Scott Waggoner in the 37th minute. Waggoner found the ball from six yards off the post after rebounding the ball off a James Howe shot from 25 yards out.

The Ramblers held the 1-0 lead until the 72nd minute, when Wisconsin tied up the game with a goal of their own. The two teams battled to break the tie, and with overtime not an option in an exhibition contest, the game finished with the score deadlocked, 1-1.

With the preseason completed, the Loyola men's soccer team will now prep for their first regular season match against Creighton on Wednesday, September 1 at the Loyola Soccer Park. Game time is set for 7:00 p.m. CST.
