CHICAGO - The Loyola University Chicago men and women's soccer teams have been honored by the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) with the 2012-13 College Team Academic Award, as was announced this morning.
Those teams who post a grade point average of 3.0 or higher earn the annual recognition, with 862 college soccer teams across all-divisions recognized this year. 182 schools had both their men and women's sides honored. Loyola was one of four programs from the Missouri Valley Conference to have both teams earn the accolade.
The women's side collected a 3.43 grade point average, narrowly behind league-leader Illinois State with 3.44. On the men's side, the Ramblers posted a team mark of 3.17 that ranked them third among the four schools Valley schools that were recognized.
Both teams concluded the 2013 campaign with trips to the Missouri Valley Conference Tournament. The women's team garnered a 6-8-6 overall record en route to a third-place finish while the men's team ended the season with a record of 6-11-2, placing fifth in the final league table.
