CHICAGO - As our season is now underway, it has been filled with plenty of game play.
Our California trip was good experience for us. Our first match took place in the Elephant Bar Tournament that took place in Santa Barbara. Our first opponent was Long Beach state, were we lost in three. The next day we were back at it, playing the No. 1 ranked team in the nation, BYU. It was a well-fought match but BYU overcame us in five sets. To finish off the tournament we went up against Cal Sate Northridge, who took the match in three sets. Coach Davis decided to put in some of the bench to divvy up the playing time.
After spending a couple days practicing at an elementary school in the Manhattan Beach we ventured down to San Diego to play UCSD. Welcoming Mike Bunting back to the line, we defeated UCSD in three to record our first, but not last, win of the season. As the California trip was set to continue, we hopped in the vans and took a six and half hour drive to Northern California where we would battle Pacific University in Stockton and Stanford in Palo Alto. After defeating Pacific in three games we decided that we had enough of Stockton and traveled to Palo Alto quicker then intended. The final game of trip against Stanford ended with a loss in three.
With a day for travel we got back to work and in the gym on Monday. We worked toward getting back on the winning track and focused on getting ready for the game against Carthage on Tuesday. The outcome was a good beating Carthage in four games. It was great being back in Gentile Arena.
With the team back on the winning track, we look to make extend our streak to two against Penn State tonight. We hope to see you all there!
