CHICAGO - The Ramblers conclude a five-game homestand on Saturday, Feb. 23, when they take on MIVA opponent Ball State at 6 p.m. Loyola looks to improve its 9-7 overall record before heading back on the road for a game against No. 6 Ohio State next week.
SCOUTING THE CARDINALS
- After starting the season undefeated, Ball State is on a two-match losing streak, falling to 8-3 overall. The Cardinals are set to play No. 12 Lewis on Friday, Feb. 22 before traveling to Loyola on Saturday. Outside hitter Greg Herceg leads the Cardinals and the MIVA with 4.12 kills per set. Joining Herceg are middle blockers Kevin Owens (1.51 blocks/set) and Matt Leske (1.39 blocks/set) who also pace the MIVA, anchoring the blocks per set rankings in first and second, respectively.
- Loyola leads its series with Ball State, 22-18, defeating the Cardinals in both matches last season by a 3-1 margin. The Ramblers hold a 16-3 advantage when hosting Ball State and have not lost to the Cardinals at home since 1999.
- Loyola has collected 81 services aces this season to lead the MIVA with 1.47 aces per set. Joseph Smalzer is currently ranked third in the nation with 0.56 service aces per set and paces the Ramblers with 31 service aces. Trevor Novotny (10), Jeff Patton (11) and Thomas Jaeschke (12) have also logged double-digit service aces for Loyola.
