CHICAGO - No. 14 Loyola University Chicago hosts its regular-season series against MIVA rival Grand Canyon this week, taking on the Antelopes on Wednesday, March 27 and Thursday, March 28. First serve for both matches is at 7 p.m.
SCOUTING THE ANTELOPES: Grand Canyon carries a 14-10 overall record while managing a 5-5 record in MIVA play. The Antelopes have taken two weeks off from conference matches, traveling to California where they split matches with University of the Pacific before sweeping UC Santa Cruz. Ben Ponnet paces Grand Canyon with 3.00 kills per set while Ryan Mather and Christian Ward anchor the net with 1.09 and 1.04 blocks per set, respectively.
- Loyola is undefeated in its series against Grand Canyon, boasting a 10-0 overall record. The Ramblers have dropped only one set against the Antelopes at home, which came in 2011 when Loyola defeated Grand Canyon, 3-1.
LAST TIME OUT: Loyola extended a five-game win streak this past weekend, defeating conference rivals Quincy and Lindenwood on March 22-23. Joseph Smalzer and Thomas Jaeschke paced the Rambler offense, collecting 57 of the Ramblers 97 total kills. Eric Daliege was a force at the net against Lindenwood, leading the floor with six total blocks while Peter Hutz led Loyola in its 3-0 sweep over Quincy, collecting a career-high five total blocks. Loyola also posted a season-high .464 hitting percentage in their win against the Hawks.
CHART TOPPER: Shane Davis carries a 201-82 overall record in his tenth season as head coach at Loyola, making him the winningest coach in program history. With three MIVA Coach of the Year awards (2005, 2006, 2010), two regular-season championships (2005, 2006) and six 20-win seasons, Davis earned his 200th win on Friday, March 22 against Quincy.
