CHICAGO - Loyola University Chicago sophomore Paul Narup (Ballwin, Mo./DeSmet Jesuit) has been named Midwestern Intercollegiate Volleyball Association Defensive Player of the Week it was announced today. The 6-foot-7 middle blocker is the third different Loyola student-athlete to earn MIVA Defensive Player of the Week accolades this season.
In two matches last weekend, Narup averaged 2.00 blocks per set, turning away seven attacks in each of the Ramblers’ wins. He contributed six kills and seven blocks in a three-set sweep of Saint Francis (Pa.) on March 24, then accounted for seven blocks, two digs and a pair of kills in a four-set victory over No. 13 Penn State.
For the season, Narup is putting up 1.56 kills and 0.94 blocks per set, while hitting .366 (126-32-257).
Loyola is back in action tonight when it plays a pivotal match at No. 7 Lewis.
