Tenth-ranked Loyola will play a pair of key matches on the road this week when it visits Fort Wayne and No. 13 Ball State. These contests will determine whether the Ramblers earn the No. 4 or No. 5 seed for the Midwestern Intercollegiate Volleyball Association (MIVA) Tournament, which begins next weekend. The last time Loyola played a first round MIVA Tournament match on the road was 2000 at Lewis.

Scouting the Mastodons
Under second-year head coach Ryan Perrotte, Fort Wayne has struggled and enters Thursday’s match having dropped its last eight outings and 13 of its last 14. The Mastodons’ last win came on February 24, when they earned a 24-26, 25-19, 26-24, 20-25, 16-14 win at Quincy. Fort Wayne has floundered at home, where it is just 3-6 this season, including 1-5 in MIVA play. Loyola has won seven straight against the Mastodons in Fort Wayne.

As a team, the Mastodons are hitting just .207 and are led by outside hitter Colton Stone, who has drilled a team-best 270 kills (2.84 per set). Middle blocker Graydon Schroeder leads the club with 76 total blocks and is hitting .272 (128-51-283).

Scouting the Cardinals
Ball State has won its last two contests and is 6-4 in its last 10 matches. When playing at Worthen Arena this season, the Cardinals are 9-2 and have won five of their last six matches on their home floor. In its last outing, Ball State emerged with a 19-25, 25-16, 25-21, 25-18 victory over Lindenwood on April 1 thanks to a team-high 11 kills from Edgardo Cartagena.

Freshman outside hitter Matt Szews leads the Cardinals with 311 total kills and 35 service aces. Fellow rookie Blake Reardon is the brother of Loyola senior Morgan Reardon, who just completed her eligibility as a member of the Ramblers’ women’s volleyball program in the fall. Morgan finished her career ranked fifth in school history with 1,386 kills.
