CHICAGO - Collin Mahan (Victor, N.Y./Victor), a sophomore on the Loyola University Chicago men’s volleyball team, has been named Midwestern Intercollegiate Volleyball Association Defensive Player of the Week, it was announced today. This marks the second time this season that Mahan has earned the award.
In two matches last week, the outside hitter averaged 2.57 digs per set as Loyola split contests at Fort Wayne and Ball State. In a 3-1 win at Fort Wayne on April 6, he totaled seven digs and two blocks and then matched a career high with 11 digs in a loss at Ball State.
For the season, Mahan has recorded a team-high 153 digs (1.58 per set) and also has racked up 220 kills, 21 service aces and 54 blocks, while hitting .256.
Loyola, which is ranked No. 12 in this week’s American Volleyball Coaches Association Division I-II Poll, faces No. 11 Ball State in the MIVA Tournament quarterfinal round on Saturday, April 15 in Muncie, Ind.
