CHICAGO - Loyola University Chicago men's volleyball unveiled its 2013 schedule today. The schedule features matches against three teams ranked in the final 2012 AVCA Division I-II Top 15 poll with the Ramblers splitting time on the road and at home in their 28-match regular-season slate.
"We have a great schedule for this upcoming season," said head coach Shane Davis. "We start with the Elephant Bar Tournament playing some of the top opponents throughout the country and then head out east twice with games against George Mason, Saint Francis (Pa.) and Penn State followed by the Morgan Classic in Springfield, Massachusetts."
Loyola opens the season in Santa Barbara, Calif. where the team will play in the Elephant Bar Tournament, Jan. 4-5. The Ramblers return home the following week to open their home slate in Gentile Arena against Saint Ambrose on Jan. 12.
Midwestern Intercollegiate Volleyball Association (MIVA) play commences on Feb. 8 as Loyola hosts Quincy at 7 p.m. The MIVA schedule also includes home and away matches against Lewis, IPFW, Ball State and Ohio State with the Ramblers playing back-to-back matches against Grand Canyon at Gentile Arena, March 27-28.
"This is one of the best recruiting classes we've had in this program," said Coach Davis. "A lot of the new players are bringing high-level experience from club teams. We will look for a few of those players to impact our program immediately to complement the experience we bring back from last season."
