Taylor Johnson Named Horizon League Newcomer of the Week
Feb. 4, 2013
CHICAGO - On the heels of one of the best all-around performances in Loyola history, freshman Taylor Johnson was named Horizon League Newcomer of the Week as announced this afternoon by the conference office. This marks the fourth time this season that Johnson has earned the award, most among any League newcomers. Johnson was fantastic on both ends of the floor in Loyola's 84-74 win last Thursday at Milwaukee, finishing with 33 points, 11 rebounds, seven assists and five steals as the Ramblers, who led by as many as 15 points in the first half, rallied from an eight-point, second-half deficit to earn a key road win. The Lincoln-Way East product scored nine of her 16 second-half points over the final 4:14 as the Ramblers made their charge, eventually scoring the final 15 points of the game. Johnson's 33 points are a Loyola freshman record and put her in a tie for seventh on LU's single-game scoring chart. In addition, her 11 boards tied her previous season high as she notched her fourth double-double of the campaign. The only Rambler to start all 19 games this season, Johnson is averaging 13.8 points, 6.4 rebounds, 3.2 assists and 2.95 steals per game this season, numbers that improve to 19.2 points, 9.3 rebounds and 3.17 steals per game in Horizon League play. Loyola (7-12, 2-4 Horizon) returns home this week and opens up a three-game homestand with a Thursday night clash against League-leading Green Bay. Tip from Gentile Arena is set for 7 p.m. |
