CHICAGO - Senior Patrice King and sophomore Simone Law earned preseason honors as the duo was named to the Preseason All-Horizon League Second Team as the League held its women's basketball media day today in Chicago. Loyola was picked to finish fourth in the standings with Green Bay chosen as the preseason favorite in the poll of head coaches, sports information directors and media members.
"It is great to see Patrice and Simone get some recognition," said head coach Eric Simpson. "I think the strength of this year's team is in our balance and I feel like our balance and depth with will critical to our success this season."
Both King and Law impressed last year in their first season in Rogers Park with both earning a spot on the Horizon League All-Newcomer Team a season ago. King gave the Ramblers a different dimension with her speed and finished second on the team in scoring (11.8 ppg) and assists (2.5 apg) while adding 42 steals and shooting 40.0% from three-point range.
Law made an immediate impact in the paint, becoming the first Loyola freshman to lead the team in both scoring (13.9 ppg) and rebounding (7.2 rpg). She tied Loyola's single-season freshman record with five double-doubles and her 13 rebounds against Nebraska Omaha were the most by a Rambler rookie since the 1998-99 season.
Loyola returns its top five scorers from last year's squad and kicks off the 2012-13 season with an exhibition game on Nov. 3 against UW-Parkside.
