Women's Basketball Blog: Entry #1
Hello! I am going to be keeping you in the loop with the happenings of the women's basketball team this season. I hope you will embark on this journey with us in our quest to win the Horizon League title.
Our season began this past weekend with a trip to Pennsylvania, where we played Lafayette and La Salle. After losing to La Salle early in the season last year, we definitely had revenge in mind as we boarded the plane last Thursday. Lafayette was the first game of the two, and despite a valiant effort, especially by Molly Crosby, we came up short. Perhaps it was the fact that we shot 6-of-35 (17.1%) in the second half- a stat that, despite great defense, is very hard to win with.
After the game against Lafayette, we knew that we would have to rally and not hang our heads sulking in the loss if we wanted to leave Philly 1-1 and not 0-2. Coming off any loss is tough, but especially on the road. Many teams struggle with going on losing streaks while they are away from home. However, our team doesn't fall into this category.
Perhaps it has to do with the preseason poll that places us 4th in the league. We know that we now have a target on our backs - a reversal from where we were just a year ago. We are used to being chosen towards the bottom of the league, giving us something to fight for and overcome.
Despite the loss to Lafayette on Friday, we put it behind us and got in a good practice on Saturday morning to get us ready for La Salle on Sunday. We then had some time to kill and decided to go visit the "Rocky Steps" and take a few pictures. Maybe it was the extra little workout we got by running up the steps, or maybe it was the ice cream and chocolate covered coffee beans that we consumed, but something gave us the spark we needed to come out and beat La Salle.
This season will definitely test us, and if our ability to lose the first game this weekend then bounce back and beat La Salle on Sunday is any indication, we are ready to move our way up through the league.
This Saturday we play our first home game against SIU, and we know that it is imperative that we "Protect Our House." We need to make sure that when we play at home we don't let other teams walk out of our gym with a win.
Come out this Saturday and help us win our first home game of the season, and watch as Monica Albano scores her 1,000th point!
