Taylor Johnson Named Horizon League Newcomer of the Week

Nov. 19, 2012

CHICAGO - After a terrific all-around performance on Saturday night, Loyola University Chicago freshman guard Taylor Johnson (Frankfort, Ill./Lincoln-Way East) was named Horizon League Women's Basketball Newcomer of the Week today by the League office. The honor is the first of Johnson's career.

Johnson was outstanding on Saturday night, racking up 26 points, six rebounds, seven assists, four steals and two blocked shots as Loyola knocked off Southern Illinois, 82-73, in its home opener at Gentile Arena. The former Lincoln-Way East standout connected on 9-of-16 from the floor and 7-of-8 from the free throw line en route to the highest-scoring performance by a Loyola freshman guard since Maggie McCloskey poured in 28 points against Green Bay on Dec. 30, 2006.

Loyola's starting point guard in all three games, Johnson is averaging 13.0 points, 4.0 rebounds and 3.3 assists per game as the Ramblers have gotten off to a 2-1 start this season.

The Ramblers have a busy Thanksgiving week as they host Northern Kentucky on Wednesday night (Nov. 21) before making the short trip north to take on Northwestern on Sunday afternoon (Nov. 25).
