Loyola Wins Windy City Shootout, Narrowly Misses School Record
Alex Meyers shoots an even-par 72 to pace the Ramblers
Sept. 3, 2012
LEMONT, Ill. - Sophomore Alexandra Meyers fired an even-par 72 and Loyola University Chicago came within one stroke of matching a team record for single-round score as the Ramblers finished first in the three-team Windy City Shootout at Cog Hill Golf Club this afternoon. Loyola posted a team score of 307 to finish ahead of local rivals Chicago State (313) and UIC (333).
"We have had a lot of good front nines, but our mantra has always been to finish strong and today we did that, getting three birdies on 18. Today's performance bodes well for our next meet at Green Bay," Loyola coach Jason Calhoun said.
Meyers turned in the best round of her Loyola career in today's season opener birdying the 18th hole to finish with a career-low 72 today, just two strokes shy of tying the Loyola single-round record set by Lauren Oh in 2009.
Junior Christy Taugner was one of three Ramblers to either set or equal a career low, shooting a five-over 77 for her best effort since 2010. Fellow junior Carly Schneider also matched a personal best by carding a 78, which matched her opening-round score at the Green Bay Fall Invitational last year.
Farley almost was able to give the Ramblers the school record for team single-round score, but her tough 30-foot birdie putt on 18 just slid past the cup. However, Loyola's score of 307 still ranks as the second-best effort in school history.
Loyola is back in action September 9 when it competes in a dual match against Green Bay prior to participating in the Green Bay Invitational, September 10-11.
