Aug. 27, 2010

Box Score

Lincoln, NE- Despite holding one of the Big 12's strongest teams scoreless in the first-half, the Loyola woman's soccer team couldn't contain Nebraska's second-half offensive attack, as the Ramblers fell 2-0 on Friday evening in Lincoln, Nebraska.

Nebraska improves to 1-1 with the win, while Loyola falls to 0-3 on the season.

Although the contest was scoreless at halftime, the Cornhuskers provided much of the early offense, as the home team fired the game's first four shots.

At the 21st minute, Loyola's Erin Kehoe attempted the Ramblers first attempt of the game, but the shot missed wide left of the goal.

Heading into the second frame, the teams traded scoring opportunities, with Loyola earning four corner kick attempts within the first six minutes of action. However, each occasion resulted in a breakup by the Nebraska defense.

Moments after the final corner kick, the Cornhuskers drove the length of the field, and netted the game's first goal. Nebraska's Molly Thomas picked up the score after beating Loyola goalkeeper Katie Groesch on a one-on-one shot to the low right post.

Four minutes later, Thomas struck again, this time with a shot from left side of the field to the top-right corner of the goal over Groesch.

Down 2-0, Loyola scrambled to find scoring chances, but the visitors couldn't fire off a shot the remainder of the game. As the final horn sounded, Nebraska held the edge, 2-0.

The Ramblers attempted seven total shots in the contest. Nebraska ended the game with 20 shots.

Cara Morawski and Maggie Doe led Loyola's offense with two shots each. Groesch made three saves in goal.
