Loyola Women's Soccer Announces 2010 Recruiting Class

CHICAGO - The Loyola University Chicago women's soccer team has completed its 2010 recruiting class, head coach Frank Mateus announced this week. The Ramblers added nine players, including four midfielders, four defenders and a forward.

"We've got a great team as it is," said Mateus. "And this year will be a great experience for all of them. The nine players that we're adding are going to make us even better."

5-7 • Midfielder • Freshman
Chicago, Ill. (Northside Prep/FC United)

Three-time IHSA All-Sectional and All-City First Team selection ... Four-year varsity letterwinner at Northside College Prep ... Named Northside team MVP as a sophomore in 2007 ... Member of 2007 and 2008 Illinois Olympic Development Program teams ... Recipient of 2008 academic/athletic award ... Spanish National Honor Society member ... Played club soccer for FC United Select with fellow recruit Elyssa Kulas.

Mateus on Ables: "Heather can serve balls with both feet, she can strike balls extremely well and I think she's going to do a good job of chipping in and making that an even stronger position than it already is at this point."

Led Marian High School to the state semifinals in 2008 and 2009 ... Received honorable mention all-state honors as a junior ... Team captain in 2009 and 2010 ... Led team with 14 assists in 2009 ... Helped Omaha Arsenal FC to the 2006 Nebraska Club title and three-straight runner-up finishes ... Member of Nebraska ODP team from 2004-09 ... Club teammate of fellow recruit Claire Weise ... National Honor Society member.

Mateus on Ambrose: "Amelia is a very smart player; she's really good technically and knows the game really well. Not only is she a good defender, but she really likes to go forward as well."

Folsom, Calif. (St. Francis/San Juan SC)

Led St. Francis High School to the Sac-Joaquin Section Championship and a No. 4 NSCAA national ranking in 2008 ... Led team in points her junior season ... Earned all-league honorable mention and St. Mary's All-Tournament Team honors in 2008 ... Led San Juan Spirits SC in scoring in three consecutive seasons ... Invited to ODP Super Y National Camp in Florida.

Mateus on Brown: "Alex can play anywhere up top, she can play anywhere on the outside mid or even at center mid, but we hope that she's going to be able to come in and score some goals for us."

Taylor Giedd
5-4 • Midfielder • Freshman
Roscoe, Ill. (Hononegah/Rockford Dactyls)

Played two seasons on varsity at Hononegah High School before playing exclusively for Rockford Dactyls club soccer ... Recognized by Rockford Register Star as a Soccer Leader after scoring 106 combined goals in 2007 and 2008 ... Led team to a NIC-10 co-championship and a sectional title in 2008 ... Helped Rockford to a first-place finish in the NISL Premiership Division in 2007 and Illinois State Cup quarterfinal appearances in 2007 and 2008 ... Named a NIC-10 Scholar Athlete.

Mateus on Giedd: "Taylor is another player that can play in a lot of different places, and has a lot of pace as well. She's a hard-working kid and I know she has the ability to score some goals as well."

Named to the W-League Super 20 National Tournament All-Star Team in 2009 ... Will play first year of varsity soccer at Prairie Ridge High School in 2010 after playing year-round for Sockers ... Selected to Illinois ODP team in 2005 and 2008 ... High school teammate of fellow recruit Maggie Olsen.

Mateus on Kehoe: "Erin can play literally anywhere on the field. She's a hard worker who knows the game, covers a lot of ground and could fill a lot of holes for a team like ours."

Park Ridge, Ill. (Maine South/FC United)

Four-year varsity letterwinner ... Helped Maine South to the Illinois state quarterfinals in 2008 ... Also helped FC United club soccer team to Illinois state quarterfinals in 2009 ... Club teammate of fellow recruit Heather Ables.

Mateus on Kulas: "Elyssa has good size, good pace and a nice first touch. She knows the game well and can fit in a lot of different places for us."

Maggie Olsen
5-6 • Midfielder • Freshman
Crystal Lake, Ill. (Prairie Ridge/Crystal Lake Force Elite)

Four-year varsity starter at Prairie Ridge High School ... Two-time Northwest Herald all-area and all-conference selection ... Also earned Daily Herald all-area and all-sectional honors in 2008 ... Played club soccer for Crystal Lake Force Elite ... High school teammate of fellow recruit Erin Kehoe.

Mateus on Olsen: "Maggie played center mid for both her high school and club teams, but I actually think she has potential to be even better as an outside back or an outside mid. She has great pace, great technical ability and knows the game well."

Anchorage, Alaska (Service/Cook Inlet SC)

Led Service High School team to the Alaska state championship in 2008 and 2009 ... Earned All-America honors in 2009 ... Named to all-state team in 2007 and all-conference team in 2008 and 2009 ... Led Cook Inlet Soccer Club to 2007 and 2008 state championships ... Played for Alaska ODP team.

Mateus on Stonebraker: "Tricia is a really smart, creative center mid who is great with the ball. She's the type of kid who's always looking to play the ball to the right place and the right player. I really like the things that she's able to do offensively."

Mateus on Wiese: "I think Claire is one of those kids who could come in and compete for that spot that Julie (Colhoff) had all year. They're very similar players. She's great in the air, can service a ball with pace to the right locations, but also a good man-to-man marker."
