Oct. 2, 2012
CHICAGO – Loyola University Chicago women’s soccer travels to Normal, Ill., on Wednesday, Oct. 3, where the Ramblers will take on Illinois State at 4 p.m. After falling to Detroit on Sunday, Loyola looks to improve their 6-5-1 overall record with a win over the Redbirds.
Last Time Out: The Ramblers fell to conference foe Detroit on Sunday, 1-0, giving up a goal in the 85th minute. Loyola opened the game outshooting the Titans in the first half, but Detroit came back after the break, controlling possession and keeping the Ramblers’ backline on its heels. The loss ended Loyola’s six-game unbeaten streak, dropping the team to fourth place in the Horizon League.
vs. Illinois State: Illinois State is 7-3-2 overall and heads into Wednesday’s game fresh off a 2-1 win over Creighton. The Redbirds were picked as the preseason favorite to win the Missouri Valley Conference after winning the conference championship last year and making it to the first round of the NCAA Tournament. Rachel Tejada anchors the Redbirds’ offense, scoring 11 goals and notching three assists this season. She is joined up top by Rachel Bostick who is the reigning Offensive Player of the Week in the Missouri Valley Conference after scoring the first goal against Creighton and assisting Tejada on the game-winner. Loyola trails 3-7-0 in the series against the Redbirds. The last meeting between the teams took place in 2008 when the Ramblers lost, 1-0.
