CHICAGO – The Ramblers begin a three-game road swing on Wednesday, Oct. 10, traveling to UW-Milwaukee where they will play the Panthers in a conference match at 7 p.m.
“I think the players are looking forward to tomorrow night’s game against Milwaukee,” said head coach Barry Bimbi. “We’re at a point in the season where this game will separate us and the Panthers as we start looking forward to the Horizon League Tournament. It’s important for seeding to get three points and I think our players have the expectation that we will win games and that’s what we plan on doing tomorrow.”
Last Time Out: Loyola held Wright State to a scoreless double-overtime game in a Saturday night conference showdown on Oct. 6. The Ramblers were slow to start, but found their rhythm twenty minutes into the first half as Moriah Schwarz ripped a shot on goal, initiating a diving save by the Wright State goalkeeper.
After the break, Loyola continued to find consistency up top, taking a 3-0 advantage on corner kicks. Jessie Hubly and Ana Claudia Michelini fueled the Ramblers’ offense, but to no avail as the game ended in a scoreless draw. Monica Gonyo tied her career record, recording her fifth shutout of the season, and ending the night with 11 saves.
vs. Milwaukee: The Panthers own a 3-7-1 overall record and 2-2-0 record in conference play this season. In its last game, Milwaukee posted a 1-0 win against Valparaiso, backed by solid play from the current Horizon League Defensive Player of the Week, Hannah Kaul.
Milwaukee has scored 13 goals this season and is led by Kelly Lewers who has notched three goals and four assists. Jamie Forbes has served as the primary goalkeeper for the Panthers, earning four shutouts and accumulating a .750 save percentage.
Loyola trails the series against Milwaukee 2-19-3, losing the last five meetings by a 17-4 margin. The last win for the Ramblers came in 2008 when the team edged the Panthers, 1-0.
