Samantha Welcher reflects on her time with Loyola soccer
Oct. 22, 2012
Hi Rambler Fans!
I cannot believe how fast the season has gone with only Valpo and Green Bay standing in our way before the Horizon League tournament. It feels like just yesterday we were walking into preseason at 7 a.m., dreading the upcoming fitness tests. While there are things I won’t miss (aka fitness tests!), I can’t begin to imagine my life at Loyola without soccer. The end of my senior soccer season is bittersweet. I’m excited to permanently disable my 6 a.m. alarm that goes off every morning, but I wouldn’t trade a minute that I’ve spent with my team. Our team is a family, which sounds cliché, but it’s the only way to describe the love that surrounds us. We fight, scrap, and dig deep for each other every day. This family love is what brings us to each win, and helps us rebound back from a loss.
With only two conference games left in my college soccer career, it’s hard not to think about the beginning of this adventure. Four years of blood, sweat and tears have brought us all here and I could not be more excited. Our team is in a great position heading into the tournament. If all goes as planned, we hope to finish in the top four of the Horizon League conference. By finishing in the top four, we’ll be able to host our first tournament match, allowing all of the wonderful Loyola fans one last chance to check us out. Wish us luck and come out and support the team in our last two conference games today at Valpo and Wednesday night at Loyola Soccer Park!
