Early Grand Slam Send IPFW Past Loyola, 4-0
Ramblers held to four hits in home-opening loss
April 4, 2013
CHICAGO - IPFW's Megan Flennikan hit a grand slam in the second inning for the only runs of the game as Loyola suffered a 4-0 defeat to IPFW this afternoon in game one of a doubleheader at Loyola Softball Park. Loyola slips to 12-12 on the year while the Mastodons improve to 14-7 with the victory.
Loyola's offense was stymied for most of the day and the visitors were able to take advantage in the second inning. After an error allowed the lead-off runner to reach, IPFW loaded the bases with nobody out on a base hit and a walk. Flennikan followed by depositing a 1-1 pitch over the centerfield fence to give the Mastodons a 4-0 lead.
Brooke Andresen was hit by a pitch and Jessica Balzano followed with a base hit as Loyola had two on with two outs in the third but IPFW pitcher Miranda Kramer was able to escape unscathed. The Ramblers did not seriously threaten again until the sixth when Lauren Moore roped a one-out double but LU could not push her across.
Kramer (8-4) was terrific in the circle for IPFW, needing just 72 pitches to notch the complete game. Ashley Rogers (4-5) went the distance for the Ramblers.
