You couldn't have asked for a better offensive performance than what we showed in our doubleheader against Valparaiso on Saturday and our defense was about as crisp as it could be as well.
In game one, Brittany Gardner gave up two hits and shut them down every inning, giving Valpo not even the slightest glimpse of a comeback. In game two, Amanda Ciran threw a gem, allowing only three hits and fanning six in a five-inning, 9-1 victory. Beating Valpo like that after what happened in the conference tournament last year was the best feeling in world and I need to give a shutout to the studs who hit home runs that day: Brooke Andresen (3), Lauren Moore (2), Brie Pasquale, Lauren Zaworski, and Tarran Shaffer.
On Sunday, we took it to the Crusaders for the third time. We started a little slow, scoring only two runs in the first five innings of play. Although we were tied going into the top of the sixth, we busted out the big bats again. An RBI single from Lauren Moore and a whopping three-run homer from Lauren Zaworski put us way out in front 6-2 to end the weekend 3-0.
The win was amazing, but something else was also great about that day. Before the game, we had the privilege of meeting the sweetest little 12u team we've ever seen. The Itasca Lady Knights came out to cheer us on to victory on Sunday. During the National Anthem, they got to stand on the line next to us and after the game we got to sign posters for them and also take a few pictures. One of the girls, , couldn't be there that day however, because she was going in for brain surgery the next day. Her name is Brianna and we all signed a poster and a ball for her and also took a picture with her team and us. It was a great moment of giving back to the sport. Sometimes we forget that not too long ago we were that age and we were looking up to the "big girls." Good luck with your season Lady Knights, and Brianna, know that you are in all of our thoughts and prayers, and we can't wait to see you at a game soon!!!
We depart for more conference play at Detroit on Friday! GO RAMBLERS!!!!
