Loyola University Chicago head women's volleyball coach Chris Muscat rounded out his coaching staff by naming Dan Buehring assistant coach this afternoon (May 8). A native of Naperville, Ill., Buehring has spent the last three seasons as an assistant coach at UIC.

"We are very excited for Dan to join our staff," said Muscat. "He brings a great deal of knowledge and energy to the gym and has proven himself to be a great trainer and communicator of the game."

"Dan's ability to create positive relationships and his understanding of the culture we are building at Loyola make him a great fit. Dan shares a vision for a positive student-athlete experience and embraces the opportunity to help push Loyola volleyball towards academic, social, and athletic excellence."

Buehring arrives in Rogers Park after a two-year stint on the bench at UIC. In his three years there, Buehring helped the Flames to 43 wins, including their first trip to the Horizon League semifinals since 2006, and worked with a pair of All-Horizon League student-athletes.

He began his coaching career after a two-year playing career as a setter at California Baptist University, where he helped the Lancers to consecutive NAIA national championships in 2006 and 2007. Buehring has remained active as a beach volleyball player, racking up 15 professional tournament titles and 43 top-three finishes in his career. In addition, he earned a CBVA (California Beach Volleyball Association) AAA rating after winning a CVBA Open tournament at Ocean Beach in San Diego, Calif. in 2011.

Possessing Chicagoland ties, Buehring played club volleyball with Sports Performance. He graduated from Cal Baptist in 2007 with a degree in business administration and received his master's of education degree from UIC in 2011.
