Natalie Pounovich pounds season-high 16 kills but Ramblers squander big fifth-set lead

Loyola University Chicago head women's volleyball coach Chris Muscat completed his coaching staff, naming Scott Leserman assistant coach this afternoon. Leserman spent last year as a volunteer assistant coach at Illinois, helping a Fighting Illini squad that advanced to the Sweet 16 of the NCAA Tournament.

"We are very excited to have Scott joining the Rambler family," said Muscat. "Scott shares a vision for the volleyball culture we are trying to establish here at Loyola. With his ability to teach technique and his creative mind for the game, there is no doubt that Scott will help in the process of building a nationally competitive volleyball program. Scott is someone who also believes in a holistic approach to the development of our student athletes, which correlates with Loyola's Jesuit philosophy in creating great athletes that will succeed in doing great things long after they graduate from our program."

Leserman spent the last two seasons in Champaign, serving as a graduate manager in 2009 before helping out as a volunteer assistant coach last season, where his duties included scouting, training during practices and video exchange. With Leserman on the staff last season, the Fighting Illini opened Big Ten Conference play by winning 12 of their first 13 matches, before injuries took their toll. Despite the setbacks, Illinois earned the No. 8 national seed in the NCAA Tournament and advanced to the Round of 16, where it dropped a five-set match to Texas in Austin.

Leserman began his coaching career on the heels of a successful playing career at Vassar College, where he was a four-year starter and three-year captain. He helped Vassar to a runner-up finish in the 2008 Molten Invitational Tournament, the championship tournament for Division III, and earned AVCA Second Team All-America honors his senior year after leading Division III in digs per set. Leserman's name can still be found throughout Vassar's record book, where he is ranked in the top 10 in 15 season or career statistical categories, and he received the College's Francis D. Furgeson Coaches Award that is given to the athlete who exemplifies commitment to his/her sport.

A native of Manhattan Beach, Calif., Leserman earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Economics from Vassar in 2009 and received a Master's in Sport Management from Illinois in 2010.
