CHICAGO - Senior Anna Eytchison (Columbia, Ill./Columbia/Dayton) was named Horizon League Offensive Player of the Week after helping Loyola to a 4-0 record at the season-opening La Salle Invitational. Eytchison drilled 59 kills (4.92 kps) as the Ramblers cruised through the tournament without dropping a set.
"It is a great honor to be recognized by the conference for the impact that Anna had on our success this weekend," said head coach Chris Muscat. "Anna brings a great deal to the court as a player and leader, all of which was evident with her performance at La Salle. What I like most about Anna is that she is able to see the big picture and understands the importance of her role in a team setting and when to use her strengths most effectively to benefit the outcome of a match."
Making her first appearance in a Loyola uniform, Eytchison got her Rambler career off to a terrific start by slamming 21 kills and hitting .485 in LU's season-opening win over Manhattan. She came back later that afternoon to post 17 kills, six digs and five aces in a sweep of defending MAAC champion Niagara and racked up a match-high 13 kills to go with seven digs and four blocks against host La Salle.
In addition to her 59 kills, Eytchison hit at a .292 efficiency for the week and added 25 digs (2.08 dps), eight blocks (0.67 bps) and seven aces as Loyola already equaled its win total from last season.
Loyola returns to action next weekend when it travels to Terre Haute, Ind. for a tournament hosted by Indiana State.
